Splash Dash 5K

Image
Hey everyone, I completed the Splash Dash 5K. This was my first time doing this particular race and I must say it was a lot of fun and very WET...My youngest son did it with me and we had a good time. I will say that it was a bit of a struggle for me to complete because my lower back was not cooperating, but I finished. There were seven different water activities during the race including LOTS of people with water guns who were having too much fun soaking all the participants. Here are a few pics of us from race day....

Five Non-Scale Goals

Soooo it's been a long time since my last post. I have been having some troubles on my journey, but I am in no way giving up. I have not been seeing any changes. I have also started having issues with my left knee and the plantar fascia in my right heel. These issues make it a little harder for me to get a good workout in. I have done a few 5K's and have been successful with those, but I could always improve. I haven't weighed myself in a very long time which brings me to the main purpose of this post. I saw a post on a social media site that advised to make non-scale goals in place of scale (pounds) goals. Here are my non-scale goals that I would like to accomplish in the next six months: 1. Performance goal - this goal would be to improve my 5K time. It currently takes me 1.5 hours to complete a 5K and that is with me mainly walking the entire time. 2. Real-life goal - this goal would be to play with my teenage boys without getting tired or winded quickly. My oldest i...

Upcoming Events

Here's just a short one about upcoming walks I will be participating in this year. 1) March of Dimes - March for Babies 5 mile Walk 2) American Heart Association 5k 3) Glow Run 4) Fair Park Urban Dash 5k (obstacle course) 5) The Most Good 5k Praying that I can improve my time on each race.

Accomplishments...

Hey y'all. I am very excited to report that I have kept to my workout schedule religiously for the past two weeks. I have not skipped a day. I will admit it is very tough with all the other things I have going on in my life. I also had another huge breakthrough during today's workout in TurboKick. I have to go back a month and give you some background. I had surgery to remove my gallbladder and have been very scared to do too much jumping, moving or bending even though I have been cleared by the doctor. I have it in my head that I will bust my incisions back open (even though they are healed). It's a mind thing. Today I let that all go and was doing all kinds of jumping and I even got back to doing my burpees with no fear. May not seem like much to some, but it HUGE for me. I'm still on my mission to a healthier me.

Staying Committed....

Staying committed to this blogging and working out thing has become a very hard task for me to do. The things getting in the way or making it harder are the normal things we all encounter such as work, home life, school and for a lot of injury and illness. I have made the commitment to not give up on this journey. I will continue to blog about my journey including the struggles and successes. I have made a promise to myself to pick it back up now that I have been released from my doctor and I am healed up now. Last week I was still a little scared that working out too much would somehow open my incision in my belly button up (I know crazy). I am going back to my schedule I set up a few months ago as follows: Monday - gym at my apartment (60 min) Tuesday - TurboKick (60 min) Wednesday - rest day Thursday - TurboKick (60 min) and sometimes BodyPump (60 min) Friday - gym at my apartment (60 min) Saturday - Total Body Conditioning (60 min) and TurboKick (60 min) Sunday - rest day ...

ShakeDown Reunion Continues...

I'm so excited and I just can't hide it. (Corny I know lol) There was another ShakeDown Reunion class added for last night and I was able to make it thanks to my girl Ashley A*K*A Sincere Truths. We had a blast AGAIN...I loved seeing and dancing with the crew. This will be the last time for a while since Taylor Gee will be returning to Cali on Tuesday. I had a whole lot of fun while he was here and got to get my hiphop in at the same damn time. Just wanted to get in a short note before returning to this thing I call homework... KeKe

The ShakeDown Reunion...

Hey everybody, I went to my first workout class last night and it was off the chain. I was released by my doctor just in time. My former hip hop instructor came for a visit from California and held what we called The ShakeDown Reunion. I had such an amazing time with him and the crew. I could feel the burn after the first routine was done. This is what happens after being banned from workouts for two weeks lol. Even though I struggled a bit I made it the whole class and it was very intense, but super fun at the same damn time. I loved going through our old routines and he even snuck in a couple of new hot routines, too. I missed seeing the crew together. We all had a blast last night and can't wait for the next one.

GOOD NEWS!!!!

Good morning all, I received good news at my post surgery followup appointment today. I am released back to normal activity. So today I will be going to my Total Body Conditioning class tonight and get it in. I will take it easy on the lifting and any jumping the first few classes back just to get back in the swing of things. I'm so excited because I've missed working out and my workout divas. Signed, Can't Wait

The Struggle Continues...

Hi everyone. Told you I'd be back. While I was not blogging I was still on the journey to a better me, but I did run into a lot of obstacles. At the end of my last post I left it at the point where I thought I injured my heel during my last 5k. It turned out I had plantar fascia (can you say painful). It is not an injury that just goes away. I was in most pain in the morning and after sitting for long periods of time. That injury took me out for a few months and I wasn't able to workout as much as I wanted/needed to. It just seemed like I had a bad run in with injury because soon after I injured my big toe on my other foot and it took me out for a bit. The thing with that is I actually waited over a month to get it checked out which made it worse. Lesson learned. I am now out because I recently had to have surgery and I have been banned from workout until I am released from the doctor. My post surgery follow-up is Tuesday so hopefully all goes well and I am released to do some ...
