Five Non-Scale Goals

Soooo it's been a long time since my last post. I have been having some troubles on my journey, but I am in no way giving up. I have not been seeing any changes. I have also started having issues with my left knee and the plantar fascia in my right heel. These issues make it a little harder for me to get a good workout in. I have done a few 5K's and have been successful with those, but I could always improve. I haven't weighed myself in a very long time which brings me to the main purpose of this post. I saw a post on a social media site that advised to make non-scale goals in place of scale (pounds) goals. Here are my non-scale goals that I would like to accomplish in the next six months:

1. Performance goal - this goal would be to improve my 5K time. It currently takes me 1.5 hours to complete a 5K and that is with me mainly walking the entire time.

2. Real-life goal - this goal would be to play with my teenage boys without getting tired or winded quickly. My oldest is very athletic and I'd like to be able to throw the football around with him when we go to the park instead of just sitting and watching them.

3. Health goal - this would be to reduce my blood pressure and lower my cholesterol. I would like to get to a point where I do not have to take blood pressure meds.

4. Movement goal - this goal would be to workout five days a week. I would like to incorporate stairs, running, and my gym classes such as Total Body Conditioning, TurboKick, Bootcamp and Nike Training Camp.

5. Feel-Good goal(s) - these goals would be to decrease my cravings for junk food, reduce stress and have more energy. I actually started my personal challenge of no desserts for a while on today. Today has been a success so far. I haven't had any cravings that I couldn't get past. I had grapefruit for dessert after dinner. This goal will be one of the harder ones for me because I LOVE desserts. This is something that I have to do though to increase my success in my overall goal.

I like the fact that my boys are being very supportive of me and they are giving up the same things that I am. They are even participating in some of my workouts to show their support. I even have the support of some of my co-workers. We meet up after work and do the stairs together. It helps to have other along with you who are on the same journey as you. You all can be motivators for each other, hold each other accountable and push each other when you want to quit.

I'll keep you updated on how things are going.
