Upcoming Events
I have a few upcoming 5k races that I have to prepare for as follows:
Firefly Run: 5k Race 3/23/2013 in Plano TX (at night Glow Stick Walk)
Fair Park 5k Urban Dash 6/1/2013 Dallas TX
Splash Dash Race 7/27/2013 in Mansfield TX (this one looks like a lot of fun- will have water involved)
I am getting in the mode of doing a lot of walks like I was at the beginning of 2012. I did my first walk April 2012 for the March of Dimes and I loved it. It was supposed to be a 5k (about 3.1 miles), but ended up being 5 miles. I completed the entire walk with no issues, no pain, no breaks at a nice fast paced walk/run. I really felt like that was a huge accomplishment for a first timer.
I am actually going to train for the upcoming walks because I would like to be able to do more running than walking on these. I figured out my training schedule that will go along with my regular workout schedule and it is going to be very busy, hectic and I will have to push myself to stay with it.
I found some pre race day and race day tips that I will be implementing:
Find a really good running shoe for my foot type.
Get a buddy to run with me.
Have a good lite breakfast 1.5-2 hours prior to the race such as a banana and energy bar or a bagel with peanut butter.
Keep Gatorade and water during the race to stay hydrated.
I will keep you posted on my training progress and the completion of each race.
