Gotta Make A Change...Quick

OMG!!! So I'm in the office and a co-worker comes over to me and we discuss the calories being consumed in a Chick Fil A breakfast sandwich. Neither one of us have ever taken the time to look at this prior to today. So I am blown away at the actual number. The breakfast sandwich (no egg or cheese) is 440 calories and a large sweet tea is 220 calories. I usually get the combo which includes hashbrowns and I add egg and cheese to my sandwich. My tea is medium. I'm not going to say that I will never eat this meal again (because I like it), but I will say that I am going to cut down drastically. It got me to thinking about other meals that I eat while at work because of the convenience and price. I get what I call my "Po Man's Meal" from Taco Bell. For $2.80 I get a 5 layer burrito minus the bean, a small bag of chips and 16 or 20 oz drink that comes out to 970 calories. I have got to do better with this and make better choices. Now that I am actually seeing the numbers as it relates to the caloric intake I know that will make me think twice or three times about the foods that I am consuming. Pray fa me because this is the challenge for me.

  1. I will keep you lifted in prayer! I remember the first time I checked the calories in the strip salad at Chick-Fil-A...I was SHOCKED! I haven't eaten a strip salad since, that was too many calories on a freaking salad. I have changed what I order, no more sweet tea either. But every now and then I do get a spicy CFA sandwich on wheat. It's all about making better choices, more days than not. You can still enjoy your favorite foods, just do it in moderation! You will find new, healthier faves, I know it!

  2. Yes I agree, the calories at most places are terrifying, like Emmenem said even salad are scary. The best thing to do is make your own food and take it with you and make sure you keep a variety of snacks handy. That way just in case you forget your lunch or something you can eat a healthy snack to subside your hunger for a second until you can find a healthier food choice. I makes sure I keep snacks that hit all textures and tastes; sweet, salty, tangy, crunchy, chewy, etc. Yes, we all eat out from time to time, but yes make sure you order better. I always order the wheat bun too and take off the top bun to reduce the carbs and calories, no fries and drink water. I even keep whole wheat tortillas with me if I choose to get some kind of wrap or taco that comes in a white flour one I just transfer the insides over to the wheat one. One meal can sabotage your whole 2-3 hr workout, it is just not worth it for me anymore. I am glad that you are pushing forward, know that you dont struggle alone. It's a daily fight to avoid bad food especially when they are so convenient and your stomach is growling, lol. But you are worth the time and effort it is taking to make the changes to live healthier. I applaud you, keep at it.
